The Betfred Derby Festival
Sun, style, fashion and world-class racing - Ladies Day lived up to all expectations!
We hope you had a brilliant day with us, and soaked in everything that Ladies Day had to offer - both on and off the track.
Take a look below at some of the best bits from today.
TEN UP FOR O’BRIEN
Jan Brueghel held off the challenge of odds-on favourite Calandagan (8-13) to win today’s Betfred Coronation Cup. The victory bought up a record-extending 10th victory in the race for Aidan O’Brien, 18 years on from his first win in the race with Scorpion.
Despite Calandagan drawing alongside in the final stages, Jan Brueghel rallied and prevailed in the head-to-head battle, under a strong ride from Ryan Moore, to win by half a length at odds of 100-30.
A delighted Aidan O’Brien said: “It’s a difficult race to win and we are delighted for him. Ryan gave him a brilliant ride. He had him in a lovely and relaxed rhythm early on, and when he started to quicken his fractions were brilliant.”
HAUK FLIES HOME
In a thrilling finish to the 2025 Betfred Oaks, Ryan Moore guided Minnie Hauk (9-2) to a narrow victory, edging out stablemate Whirl by a neck. Betfred 1000 Guineas winner, Desert Flower was back in third.
Moore's decision to ride Minnie Hauk, winner of the Cheshire Oaks, proved an astute one, with the jockey capitalising on her stamina and class in the final furlong to complete a 23-1 Group One
double for trainer Aidan O’Brien.
With both the Betfred Oakes and Betfred Coronation Cup secured, all eyes turn to tomorrow’s Betfred Derby to see if the Coolmore clean sweep can be achieved again...
